BRATTLEBORO, VT – (May 14, 2004) – FiberMark announced today that the Scarface DVD gift set from Universal has been named “Best in Show” for FiberMark’s 11th Annual Specifier Awards. The Specifier Awards program spotlights the year’s most innovative package designs using FiberMark materials. FiberMark’s specialty fiber-based materials are enhanced with an extensive palette of colors, finishes, and embossing techniques, providing a limitless array of package design possibilities.

“Every day, designers are breaking new ground in this medium,” explains Gary Baker vice president of FiberMark’s packaging strategic business unit. “This award formally recognizes package designs that leverage FiberMark’s versatility and unique ability to express brands through both visual and tactile means. The Scarface DVD package is an excellent example of what can be accomplished with FiberMark materials.”

The Scarface gift set uses Pellaq by Skivertex® with Croco embossing. Modeled to look like a gangster’s cigar box, the material looks and feels like black reptile skin, giving the box a high-end, dangerous, masculine appearance that enhances the theme of the movie. Open the box, and there is a red satin-like lining that showcases the two-disc anniversary edition of the film. Adding to the gangster image, a false bottom reveals a secret compartment, where consumers find a DVD of the original 1932 version of Scarface, Tony Montana’s monogrammed gold money clip, and a set of limited edition collectible lobby cards.

The package, created by Shorewood Packaging and the Creative Label Company, is a high-quality, long-lasting collector’s edition. Constructed of FiberMark material, specified as an economical and resilient material option. According to Baker, “FiberMark materials often serve as high quality alternatives to more expensive options like genuine leather, suede, metal, wood or fabric. They are durable, strong and designed to be compatible with a wide variety of manufacturing and secondary decorating processes.”

FiberMark’s Specifier Awards recognize innovation in over 50 categories, including 16 packaging categories. The winner in each category redefined the limits of what can be done with FiberMark packaging material. Entries are judged on overall appearance, decoration, printing quality, design, use of color, construction quality and the relationship of the covering material to the product. All packaging winners are listed below.
